Biography

Rowland Slater, Jr., 82 of Parsonage Pines, Schoharie, NY died peacefully on July 19, 2009 with his family at his side.

Rowland was born March 23, 1927 in Sharon, NY a son of Roland Sr. and Anita (Rorick) Slater. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving his country during WWII as a Light Truck Driver from 1945 to 1947 when he was honorably discharged. He held various jobs including a position as Foreman at Rotterdam Industrial Park and Store Manager for Victory Markets in Schoharie. He enjoyed music, carpentry, and spending time with his family and foster children. He also played and coached softball.

Survivors include his children; James (Merry) Slater of Melbourne, FL, Janie (Daniel) Helligas, of Central Bridge, NY, Gene (Elaine) Slater, of Schoharie, NY, Lenny Slater, of Schenectady, NY and Amanda Slater, of Cobleskill, NY, 11 Grandchildren, 16 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Granddaughter, 1 sister, Lorraine Kennedy, of Cobleskill, NY, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Margaret Slater. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth (Liddle) Slater.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street, Schoharie followed by a funeral service at 8 pm. Burial will be held privately at the Bramanville Prospect Cemetery.
