Biography

Schoharie (Schoharie County): Edward W. Keyser 80, of Robert Court, Schoharie died Monday, April 15, 2013 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Keyser was born March 8, 1933 in Schenectady a son of George H. and Mary (Wilkie) Keyser. He graduated from Schoharie High School in 1951 and was State Representative in 1950. While attending Schoharie Central he was active in basketball, baseball and FFA. For many years, he was a self-employed farmer on Junction Road in Howes Cave and later, worked as the caretaker of the Mildred Vroman property. He enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling and was an avid race fan following the DIRT circuit at Fonda, Utica-Rome and Syracuse. He and his wife, June were longtime supporters at Fonda with the Kids Club and Alton & Ronnie’s Racing.

Survivors include his wife June (Schmidt) Keyser, whom he married march 13, 1954, three children Jeannine (Stephen) Oppedisano of Arlington, MA, Carole (Alton) Palmer of Howes Cave, and Darren (Tara) Keyser of Schoharie, three grandchildren Janelle Poder (Michael) Foley, Jeremy J. (Malissa Saracusa) Poder and Jessica A. (James Safford) Poder, three great-grandchildren Scott L. , Amelia Grace, and Cody James Poder, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Helen and Wanda and a son, Michael.

Services will be private for family and close friends. Burial will be in the Old Stone Fort Cemetery, Schoharie. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Keyser to charity of ones’ choice. The Langan Funeral Home of Schoharie and Central Bridge are assisting the family.
